The Four Elemental Mothers remind us of our Buddha Nature, awakened state and our true nature luminosity and balance. They help us to move across cultures as each of Holy Mothers are one of these elements, with Space being the Elemental Mother who sits quietly in the middle of the Mandala as the fifth element who birthed all. The ultimate expression of the Four Elemental Mothers is found in the Five Female Buddhas: Mamaki – Water Female Buddha, Locana – Earth Female Buddha, Pandaravasini – Fire Female Buddha, Samaya Tara -Air Female Buddha and Akashadhatvishvari Space Element (space is the all pervading all uniting energy) and sit in the middle of the Mandala. In each of the traditions the Holy Mothers fit under one of these elements.
All Four Elemental Mothers as illuminated by their Female Buddha Selves emanate from the same parent tradition, and as they piece themselves back together again they piece us back together into a tradition of love and tenderness. The prayer to the Elemental Mothers is pervasive in all traditions.
The prayer from the Aspiration-Prayer for Deliverance from the Dangerous Passage of the Bardo sums up the Four Elemental Mother Ceremony. It appeases the Elemental Mothers as it encourages us to sink back into our true natures which they represent as Buddha nature, awakened self itself:
May the elements of space not rise up as enemies,
May I see the realm of the blue Buddha.
May the elements of water not rise up as enemies,
May I see the realm of the White Buddha.
May the elements of earth not rise up as enemies,
May I see the realm of the yellow Buddha.
May the elements of fire not rise up as enemies,
May I see the realm of the red Buddha.
May the elements of air not rise up as enemies,
May I see the realm of the green buddha.
may the rainbow of the elements not rise up as enemies,
MayI see the realms of the buddhas.
